energetic healing

Thanks in part to the rise of spiritual self-care practices, you may have heard the term “Chakra” mentioned in casual conversation, by yogis, or even on a social media post. But, what exactly is a chakra, and why is it important?

What does chakra mean?

The word chakra originates from the Sanskrit language over 3000 years ago. Translated, it means “wheel” in the English language. In Hinduism, Buddhism, and Ayurvedic belief systems, chakra refers to wheels of energy throughout the body. There are 7 main chakras along the spine, which store intuitive energy, such as thoughts, feelings, and memories. These can both influence and inform our mindsets, behaviors, emotional health.

What are the main seven chakras?

In ascending order, starting at the base of your spine, I’ll illustrate a few points about each of the main seven chakras:

  • ROOT: The center of our safety, security, and survival. The root chakra leaves us feeling grounded when balanced and disconnected or fearful when out of balance.
  • SACRAL: The center of our pleasure, emotional expression, and creativity. The sacral chakra inspires us to “bring new life” into the world, whether that’s a baby or a new project. A blocked sacral chakra results in stagnation and creative blocks.
  • SOLAR PLEXUS: The center of our divine will, personal power, and confidence. A blocked solar plexus chakra can leave us feeling disempowered and insecure in our lives.
  • HEART: The center of not only giving and receiving love, but of our joy, fulfillment, and feelings of being expansive. When the heart chakra is blocked, emotions of fear, doom, heartache, or numbness dominate our emotional state.
  • THROAT: The center of speaking our authentic truth and expression openly. A closed off throat center may manifest as being unable to speak up towards certain people in our lives.
  • THIRD EYE: The center of our inner-vision and guidance. When the third-eye chakra is blocked off, we likely cannot dream or envision anything in our mind’s eye during meditation.
  • CROWN: The center that connects us to our higher selves, God, and Spirit. The crown is the beautiful creation space for spiritual connection, reminding us we’re never alone. When blocked off, you feel disconnected from divine love and alone in the world.

Why should we pay attention to our chakras?

Caring for our consciousness centers is important because each chakra corresponds to massive nerve centers throughout our bodies. Think of these energy clusters like water flowing downstream from pool to pool. A blocked or clogged entrance to a pool affects the entire water flow. Opened chakras equate to a balanced connection between our mind, body, and Spirit. By aligning the chakra system, we can experience mental and physical benefits, gaining access to our high selves.

If you’re interested in learning more, episode 3: Chakras + Energy Medicine and episode 4: Chakra Balancing Meditation on The Heal Podcast explains how our chakra system affects all aspects of our lives. Cultivating introspective grounding tools is an excellent start to learning how you can begin nourishing your energetic being.

people walking with their shadows

What do I mean by Shadows?

Like physical shadows, the darker emotions that we mask and bury deep within our minds can obscure the path towards personal growth. These undesirable behaviors or expressions of emotional wounds are Shadows.

Unfortunately, we’ve been taught to avoid pain at all costs. Even talking about our TRUE emotional states is often considered embarrassing or impolite. I had no emotional awareness for years and naturally suppressed all negative emotions or thoughts that I deemed as “not acceptable”.

When left suppressed, these stressful emotions create biochemical responses within the body and eventually begin to change our biology. Without introspection into the unconscious side of our minds, we cannot live a balanced existence.

How do Shadows effect our well-being?

Avoiding shadow work can lead to a cascade of mystery ailments and symptoms such as:

  • Digestive disorders
  • Migraines
  • Body aches + pains
  • Tension in the back or neck
  • Decreased libido/infertility
  • Chronic fatigue/insomnia
  • Anxiety/OCD
  • Depression
  • Weight gain
  • Hair loss
  • Compromised immune system
  • Auto-Immune conditions

That list could go on and on, with numerous indicators stemming from accumulated stress and emotional trauma.

How do we help heal our Shadows?

Breathwork was the first modality of healing that allowed me to finally face and fully feel all these darker emotions. Ultimately, by using the breath’s power, I was able to heal my physical body from several ailments.

Since many of us have never accessed our emotional bodies in this way, breathwork can be a raw, vulnerable, and emotionally intense experience. It’s not a glamorous process. Shadow healing takes courage and commitment. It requires an integrative approach to physical, mental and emotional healing. However, the level of self-discovery and inner-transformation on the other side is always worth it.

Freeing ourselves of the heavy weights that we’ve been carrying for years and becoming comfortable with our shadows isn’t a fantasy or impossible. It’s a beautiful journey of awakening that I’m humbled to guide breathers through each and everyday.

If you feel called to find more resources about how we can embrace all of the dark aspects of ourselves to come back into wholeness and empowerment, try listening to these educational podcasts:

When we integrate our Shadows, and shine light on our darkness, true mental, emotional and physical healing begins.

smiley face on the ground

It’s an age-old question. One that’s been pondered and debated for hundreds of years. In the modern world, with access to the findings of brilliant researchers, psychologists, and philosophers, we now have some more concrete proof of what can actually promote happiness.

As many of us have learned, it’s often not money, a new car, a big home, or material things that truly bring us happiness (though often we will trick ourselves that we “need” these things to feel fulfilled). Time and again, not long after we get that next “thing” that’s supposed to make us happy, we’re already looking for something else to fill that space inside. Several studies show that while there are many conceptualizations of happiness, there are a few main contributors to peace and fulfillment.

What can we do to cultivate happiness?

True happiness stems from meaningful contribution.

We can make meaningful contributions by using our natural gifts, talents, and skills to improve others’ lives in some way. Each of us has unique abilities and instincts. Finding a way to utilize our fortes to benefit someone else helps us act from our heart rather than our ego.

Moreover, we define our reality (level of happiness) from what we BELIEVE. Our thoughts, attitude, and beliefs all stem from the subconscious mind, where we project 95% of our lives from. To begin releasing negative beliefs, we can use conscious breathwork to access the subconscious and allow that heaviness to cascade out.

Above all, happiness is a CHOICE that is possible for most of us. Numerous studies have indicated that people who are happier have specific daily habits. These routines can include exercise, meditation, maintaining healthy relationships, pursuing goals, and practicing gratitude. You can listen to one of my podcasts about the power of intention to transform our lives. With a clear understanding of ourselves, we are better able to sustain the commitment to experience our full potential.

Combining the above daily habits with meaningful contributions is a recipe for fulfillment and true joy each and every day. Yes, there will be ups and downs. Unexpected obstacles along our path along with hardships are inevitable in life. But, we can chose to be intentional about the outlook we want to have each day. This perspective gives us the power to co-create our realities. We all deserve to experience fulfilling happiness and joy. I know it can be easy to find yourself lost, unhappy, and full of negative energy. Thankfully, there will always be a path of hope and peace waiting for you.

Meditation, breathwork, breathwork healing, grounding, mindful, reiki, energy healing

It is crucial to implement grounding techniques in your daily and weekly routine. Wherever you are in your healing and wellness journey, it is imperative to ground regularly for a balanced life. Here are my top recommended practices for grounding and why they are so important.

Why Should We Ground?

Oftentimes our thoughts, anxieties and worries can tailspin out, leaving us feeling scattered, insecure and disconnected from our worn bodies.

This sense of disconnection ripples into our lives and we can become disconnected from our intuition and sense of safety within ourselves.

This is why grounding our energy in a consistent basis is so important. When you are grounded, it allows you to be present and easily organize your thoughts.

Along with growing in a way that is in alignment with your vision, grounding creates reconnection, balance and strengthening within our mind, body and spirit.

This leaves us feeling unshakable no matter the obstacle that comes your way.

How Can You Ground?

Here are my top recommendations for easy but impactful grounding practices.

  1. Morning Meditation for 10-15min, feet securely rooted to the ground. If you need a supported grounding meditation, listen to my grounding breathwork meditation HERE
  2. Breathing in through my nose to activate the parasympathetic state of rest + restore.
  3. Diffusing Earth & Wood Synergy Blend by Edens Garden with grounding cedarwood.
  4. Epsom salt baths for an increase of relaxing magnesium for your physical body.
  5. Breathing in through the nose, gently and softly.
  6. Eat or drink root veggies, which energetically ground you back in. Think carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, turnips and ginger.
  7. Use CBD Oil.  I use and sell a locally grown, full spectrum, organic CBD oil that has a strong grounding presence for our nervous system.
  8. I also love walks in nature, journaling, yoga and a digital detoxes.

There is no wrong way to practice grounding, and I invite you to consider where you can fit in one or more of the above into your consistent routine. I am here to support you in your grounding practices, so be sure to read on to discover my breathwork offerings.

healthy boundaries, breath work, meditation, transformation

Learning to say “No” in polite and gentle ways was one of the most empowering tools in my evolution journey. When power is given away to others, the voice remains quiet, healthy boundaries are crossed, and the past repeats.

Saying “No” allows you to create healthy boundaries, conserves your energy, and most importantly, gives you your power back.

What are boundaries and why are they important?

Boundaries are barriers we place emotionally or physically to stand firm in what we believe is right for us. Boundaries are expectations for ourselves that shape what we accept from others and ourselves.

You may feel stuck, stifled, or disrespected when healthy boundaries are crossed. The truth is, it is up to us to set our boundaries to prevent this from happening.

For many of us, we are living out of integrity to please others. It is not uncommon to feel anger or frustration in your body if you struggle to say ‘No’.

Sometimes setting boundaries is as simple as using ‘No Statements’. Here are a few phrases you can familiarize yourself with and use to empower you to stand firm in your boundaries.

‘I just don’t like the way (X) makes me feel’

‘That doesn’t resonate with me’

‘I appreciate the offer, but no thanks’

Who or what in your life are you ready to start creating healthy boundaries with the above phrases? Every time you authentically and courageously speak up, your own self-love and respect grow.

Intuition,new years,breathwork

With the new year approaching, many find themselves reflecting on what they want to invite into their life. Our intuition holds the answer.

New Years goals typically align with one of the following:

Spiritual Alignment

Commitment to Bettering Physical and Mental Health

Career and Educational Ambitions

Strengthening Relationships With Loved Ones

Taking Risks and Trying New Things

What is it that you seek? No goal can become clear without meaningful reflection and the direction it brings. I believe our intuition is the strongest tool we can use to guide our next steps. We hold the answers to what we need most. Separating our needs from outside pressures, what do you truly want? What do you deserve to direct your attention to?

Our Intuition Holds The Key

Many are detached from their intuition, casting aside their inner voices for analytical thought patterns or distraction. Refining your intuition can not only guide you into a new year of purpose, it can serve you daily as you navigate uncharted waters and decision making.

By defining your intuitive voice now, my hope is that you will have a clear vision for your future self by the time your new year’s resolutions come around.

To explore how to deepen your intuitive voice and therefore, your inner growth, listen to my podcast HERE

In this episode of the Heal Podcast, I discuss how you can deepen your own intuition and intuitive gifts along with discovering inner-growth.

If you are ready to up-level your own inner-knowing and wisdom, this episode will be the perfect place to start!

Let’s explore 3 ways to develop and strengthen your intuition:

  1. Pay attention to your dreams. Our dreams serve as messages from our subconscious. The precious information within dreams can guide us in waking life.
  2. Practice present moment awareness. Our inner voice calls out to us multiple times a day. Don’t push these hunches or gut reactions away or run from them. Many can relate to the experience of thinking of a song then hearing it on the radio minutes after. Acknowledge your power and don’t discredit these occurrences. Lean into them and ask yourself to continue receiving messages.
  3. Practice breathwork. It is proven that both repetitive practices and the power of breathwork both help to develop intuition and open the portal for information to come through. Breathwork is a powerful and quick gateway to deepening your intuition.

Creating Certainty

How to Create Certainty during Uncertain Times.

Uncertainty & the unknown are one of the greatest causes of chronic anxiety. Many of us are used to feeling completely in control of our lives, schedules & environment. The current forecast of our lives is the ultimate test of how we handle uncertainty.

Though there are several self-care habits that we can implement each day to create a sense of certainty and control over our lives which puts our minds at ease.

Each morning I dedicate the first hour to me. I call this my “Magic Morning” as I pick a few self-care tools that fulfill me mentally, emotionally & physically. Doing so before taking on the rest of my day always me to feel like I have autonomy in my life & leaves me in a positive mindset.

A few of my current go-to’s:

  • Herbal Tea + Water with Lemon to hydrate
  • Morning Dance + stretches with feel-good music that gets me out of my head & into my body
  • Re-bounding on my mini-tramp to get my lymphatic system flowing
  • Morning Matcha Tea Latte (switched to green tea as it contains L-Theanine which promotes relaxation)
  • 10min Meditation + Conscious Breathwork to energize + release any mental baggage

I switch this routine up constantly but notice when I leave it out of my day, I feel so much “heavier” mentally & emotionally. The ONLY certainty in this human experience is change. Learning to surrender, to release control, is an act all of us should be striving for. Through each conscious breathwork session, this is our goal. To completely release control so we can discover the wisdom that our higher selves would like to reveal to us. To access deeper healing through our own inhale + exhale.

And although many aspects of our lives our completely out of our control right now, we can create a piece of certainty each day through establishing a consistent Magic Morning.

I guide my clients through their own self-care in customized Reiki Energy Healing Sessions both in my Grand Rapids office The Healing Space & Virtually, through distance Reiki Sessions. Balancing the 7 energy centers or “Chakras” is another gentle way to create balance and feel centered right now. Learn more about our 7 Chakras in this blog post.

Winter Blues

In this post i’ll share my TOP tips for beating the winter blues while learning how to Discover Body Peace ALL year no matter the season. If you live in the mid-west like me then you’ve likely experienced some form of SAD (seasonal affective disorder). Its a form of depression related changes in the seasons and is becoming increasingly common as we spend most of our days indoors.

Symptoms associated with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) include:

  • Feeling depressed most of the day, nearly every day
  • Losing interest in activities you once enjoyed
  • Having low energy
  • Having problems with sleeping
  • Experiencing changes in your appetite or weight
  • Feeling sluggish or agitated
  • Having difficulty concentrating
  • Feeling hopeless, worthless or guilty
  • Having frequent thoughts of death or suicide
winter

As I’ve become more mindful of my body over the years, I’ve discovered that I am definitely affected and can relate to quite a few of these symptoms. They typically start creeping in mid-October and are fully felt by December, lasting through February.

I believe that the fall-winter months is a time that we need to SLOW down, enjoy more sleep, engage in gentle movement and indulge in heartier foods.

Combating the winter blues with holistic modalities has been absolutely LIFE CHANGING for me. I’ve been able to finally ease into my winter rituals with joy + absolute ease. Its now a time of year I look forward to for extra self-care.

Here are my top 10 tips to beat the winter blues and feeling like YOURSELF all year.

1. Vitamin D3

  • It’s both a vitamin and a hormone – because of its effects on hormones in the body, it’s thought to affect mood by improving your sense of well-being.
  • For SAD (seasonal affective disorder), 1,000-5,000 IU can be effective. Some may need upwards of 10,000 IU’s to feel the benefit. (I am one of those people!) Check with your doctor first – Vitamin D levels can be determined with a simple blood test.
  • This is the brand I use myself + recommend to my clients: NatureWise Vitamin D3

2. Full Spectrum Sunlamps

  • SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is a cyclic form of depression caused by changes in the circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is a 24-hour cycle that regulates biochemical processes in the body. When the levels of light change in the fall and winter, in some people, this cycle can be disrupted.
  • Levels of melatonin and serotonin drop in the winter, and can cause lethargy and weight gain
  • Light therapy treats the cause of SAD, lack of light, without any side effects
  • Easy to use/travel with – portable and rechargeable
  • Available on Amazon for about $60-120 (my recommendation below!)
  • Place at midriff 20 to 30 inches from face
  • Use at least 15 minutes per day preferably in the morning
  • Verilux Full Spectrum Happy Light is the lamp I use daily!

3. Don’t fight it – rest

  • Hibernate (go to bed early, movie binges, say no to too many activities/making other people happy instead of yourself, take days off)

4. Warm foods

  • Hot lemon water upon waking to warm up + gently detoxify the body
  • Oatmeal or avocado toast for breakfast
  • Broths, soups & stews or lunch/dinner
  • Herbal tea in-between meals

5. Circular, Connected Breathwork You can renew your body+mind through Breathwork Healing.

I guide clients through this active form of meditation which uses a circular and connected pattern of breathing. It can change emotional default settings, lifetime patterns of dis-connect, anxiety and stress.

It is a healing practice that is an efficient and effective way to emotionally + physically detox the body. You can release up to 70% toxins using this breath.

Breathwork Healing is a simple tool that supports us in shedding those heavy weights of anxiety, negative emotion, stress & tension.

6. See a comedy show or funny movie

  • Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress
  • Triggers the release of endorphin’s
  • Laughing with others is even more powerful than laughing alone
  • It’s a great date night!

7. CBD Oil

  • Clinically proven to naturally reduce stress + anxiety within minutes of consumption.
  • Read more on how CBD is an ideal supplement for those experiencing SAD (seasonal affective disorder), and has been shown to be effective at treating numerous symptoms associated with the disorder.
  • I sell organic and locally grown CBD tinctures to clients all over the U.S via postal mail.

8. Movement a few times a week that gets you sweaty

  • Hot yoga, dance, kickboxing, spin class

9. Great looking winter clothes so you don’t feel dumpy

  • Wear vibrant colors and fitted clothes so you aren’t tempted to over eat and hide your food baby

10. Enjoy a Infrared Sauna Session or Inframat

  • Warm up with a Infrared Sauna Session
  • Benefits of a Infrared Sauna or Inframat include: detoxification, weight-loss, skin purification, relaxation, improved circulation, pain relief, reduction in inflammation.

Implement a few if not ALL of these into your winter regimen and I promise that you will ignite your passion for life again!

Stress

We live in a society where chronic stress has become the norm. The demands of our career, family and friends can feel overwhelming and leave us completely depleted; yet we buckle down and strive on. Though we would love to stay oblivious of the harm that chronic stress plays in our lives, often our bodies will begin to give us signs that it is not sustainable.

Maybe you’ve felt the indications of stress in your own body for years and have chosen to ignore them. Or perhaps, you’ve already prioritized some changes to live a more stress-free lifestyle. What so many need to realize is that there is a epidemic of chronically stressed out people that are in desperate need of some serious self-care. Thankfully, small changes in your daily life can have a profound impact on your overall health.

Its in your hands to carve out that time and make it happen or go on living in a state of constant chaos.

IMPACTS OF STRESS IN MY OWN LIFE

I recently wrote a post about the implications of chronic stress in my own life which led to extreme Adrenal Burnout. You can read that entire post HERE. I knew that I was a stressed out person, but getting that test result was a huge wake-up call for me. For the first time in my life, I’ve deliberately slowed down to finally heal.

Adrenal Fatigue is just one indication of chronic stress. I’ve had a host of other neurological (Bells Palsy) and digestive (Candida overgrowth) issues throughout my life as well. All of which ties back to stress as the underlying cause. This is why I’m committed to helping other women first realize the impact of stress in their own lives and then provide them with the tools to manage it effectively.

Living stress-free is impossible in today’s world, but we can take several measures to ensure that we are truly THRIVING not just surviving in our bodies. Achieving Body Peace and learning to love yourself unconditionally is a result of that journey.

STRESS & DIGESTION

Eating on the go. Snacking at my desk. Eating as quickly as possible to get back to the task at hand. Having a heated discussion at meal time. Watching T.V and munching. Sound familiar? I’ve been guilty of ALL of these and more. When I learned that the average meal is eaten in 3min I was not surprised in the least. Americans have completely lost touch with what meal time should feel like.

Digestion starts with the senses, as we prepare and assemble our meals. Since most of us now consume pre-prepared meals, we’ve already lost touch with that sacred process. Chewing, slowly and thoroughly is also a vital part of smooth digestion but because of stress we tend to vacuum our food up which leaves our bodies with the taxing job of breaking down all of that partially digested food.

All of these bad meal time habits combined with high stress has led to a downfall in our digestion. Even emotional or psychological stress can keep our bodies in that sympathetic nervous system. This is part of our autonomic nervous system and is responsible for the “fight or flight” response. Under these circumstances our bodies believe we are in danger and instead of bringing the blood flow to our stomach/intestines to break down food, it goes to our limbs. Why the limbs? Because our body can’t tell the difference between real and perceived stress such as your boss yelling at you, which is why its getting ready to physically run from the stressor.

We must activate the para-sympathetic nervous system known as the “rest & digest” mode of the autonomic nervous system to truly digest and assimilate our food properly. The benefits include less bloating, gas, constipation and acid-reflex. Ensuring that our meal time is MUCH more pleasant.

ANXIETY & DEPRESSION

The number of people being prescribed anti-depressants is sky-rocketing each year. There are over 2 million children between 0-17 years of age now on anti-depressant medication alone and that stat is very frightening to me. It is a great indication of the impact of stress that humans of all ages are feeling.

Instead of treating the symptom with a prescription drug that only leads to MORE side-effects, what if we treated the root imbalance? Why have we accepted that this as the norm? We live in a society of instant gratification. Fast results and fast information at our finger tips. We’ve become accustomed to this way of being.

At 19, I personally tried anti-depressants for panic attacks I was getting because of my birth control along with the stress of college. The prescription definitely made the panic attacks go away, but in turn in numbed the rest of my emotions too. I felt like a complete and total zombie. It was only a matter of months before I tossed the bottle and started looking for alternative ways to manage my stress.

Because I live in Michigan where its cold, grey and gloomy most of the year, learning to cope with stress and stave off anxiety has become a necessity. No matter where you live, we all experience low periods of sadness, depression and anxiety. But please know that this does NOT have to be your norm and that JOY can be your permanent state if your dedicated to the health of your mind+body.

NATURAL WAYS TO MANAGE YOUR STRESS

I’ve experimented with TONS of natural remedies to lower my stress. To live a care-free and love filled life. I’m sharing with you the methods that I’ve witnessed to be the most transformational for myself and my clients. If your ready to ditch your anxiety/depression medications and try the alternative route then i’d love to guide you in your journey back to body peace. Learn more + book your completely customized session on my Nutritional Cleansing Page.

HERBS/SUPPLEMENTS (click the supplement for my brand recommendation)

SELF-CARE

Its a combination of all of these and more, but you truly have to find what resonates with YOUR body as we are all so unique. Just giving yourself more time to laugh, have pleasure, be with loved ones, turning off your cell phone/email. To truly be present and stop obsessing about regrets of the past and worries of the future. Accumulating a plan that is specific to what intuitively reduces your stress is key in this process of self-discovery.

Do you have a favorite way to de-stress? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!

Compare no more

I’ll be the FIRST to admit that I have played the comparison game my entire life with other women around me. It feels like this instinctual almost ingrained behavior that society comes to expect and ACCEPT.  We see articles like PEOPLE magazines segment on “Who wore it best” and women on reality shows like Real Housewives constantly tearing each other down.

Its no wonder that girls as early as 8 years old are starting to become aware of their body weight and constantly comparing themselves to bodies of perfection that are portrayed on magazine covers. This comparison game has completely distorted our body image and made our capability of unconditional self-love feel unattainable.

With age, self acceptance becomes easier and more welcomed but there is no reason you cant LOVE your body RIGHT where you are in your journey.

This is the story of getting caught in the trap of the vicious comparison cycle and how tuning into my own intuitive power is leading me to unshakable SELF-LOVE.

GETTING CAUGHT IN THE TRAP

I was always a green bean growing up, with a naturally lanky and slim frame, I never paid much attention to my figure. It was when I moved middle schools in 7th grade that I experienced the harsh reality of bullying from my new “friends”.

The girls taunted me, spitting names like “barbie” and “anorexic,” spreading these rumors all over my new school. It was of course traumatizing but it was the first time that I thought to myself “why am I so skinny” and “this isnt fair.” I remember purposely over eating to try and gain weight which of course only back fired because this began my distorted relationship with food.

Now I realize they bullied me out of their own insecurities, portrayingtheir fears onto me by pulling the attention off their own bodies and onto mine. Girls at this age have no filter, so in a lot of ways they were just speaking their FEARS out into existence while as we get older and realize its not socially acceptable we hold those thoughts in or even worse gossip quietly behind someones back.

I know that my story is not so unique and that a lot of women have beliefs stemming from their child hood that they still carry with them to this day. Self-limiting beliefs that they are NOT ENOUGH.

  • SKINNY enough.
  • SMART enough.
  • OUTGOING enough.
  • FUNNY enough.
  • BEAUTIFUL enough.
  • SUCCESSFUL enough.

We come to this conclusion by comparing ourselves to other women that seemingly “have it all.” But that’s just it, we see a GLIMPSE of their life and come to our own conclusions about how “PERFECT” their lives are.

LETTING GO

As of just recently I carried these beliefs as burdens on my back that were constantly whispering in the back of my mind that I would NEVER be ENOUGH. It was like trying to reach for a goal that felt completely UNREACHABLE.

No matter how skinny I looked, no matter how perfect my high lights were, no matter how strictly I followed my “clean diet”, no matter the status of my career, there was ALWAYS another women that I could look to and say to myself “See Sam, your NO WHERE near her level of perfection.”

The pressure that we put on ourselves and constant comparison is the ONLY demise to our happiness and unconditional self-love.

CHOOSING LOVE

My journey out of this vicious cycle began when I started looking inwards for strength and stopped focusing on my outer appearance. When I LET GO of old beliefs and started leading with my HIGHER SELF. When I decided to make MY happiness a priority and sought after BALANCE instead of PERFECTION.

comparison

1. Connect with your intuition: Start each morning from a place of LOVE. Take just 5-10min to meditate for a week on opening your heart and having a strong desire for compassion to wash over yourself. If you can’t LOVE yourself first, you wont have enough to spread to those around you. Go slow, be patient and see that little girl in yourself that just wants to be loved and accepted because bottom line that’s what it boils down to, we all crave to be LOVED.

2. Create reminders: Write notes of loving kindness all over your space. Post sticky notes on your bathroom mirror, in your car and at your desk as little reminders that you are LOVED.

3. Compliment generously: When we start complimenting other women instead of judging them we are training our mind+heart that we CHOOSE love. That we want to give and RECEIVE freely and fearlessly. Over time, you will default to a place of LOVING kindness instead of comparison and plus it FEELS SO GOOD to bless others in this way. Plus you could just be the person that turns their entire day around.

WHAT I’VE LEARNED

Nowadays, I dont pay much attention to the media. TV, magazines and ads filled with vein images of half-naked models just doesn’t feed my ego like it used to. I’ve learned that the times I do hear that comparison voice in the back of my head, its really just fear trying to control me and because I control my thoughts, I let it pass and instantly replace it with a thought of love.

Realizing these changes don’t happen overnight you have to be extremely patient with yourself and know that with a loving commitment to yourself you can and WILL find freedom in LETTING GO of old beliefs and simply LOVING. Loving yourself FIRST then choosing to love women around you.

If you can relate to my story or have any tips for ENDING the comparison game, I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment below or reach our to me directly at sam@samkalawart.com. Schedule a 1:1 Session to end comparison in your own life and step into empowerment.

xx,

Sam
